Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

December 4, 2003

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

Haiku number one explains what happened to last week's Haiku Thursday...

Next week will be short.
Go to visit family.
Where is the turkey?

--Larry C

Haiku number two welcomes back the penguin...

More of an echo of your strip - in fact, better check the alt tags... OK, I can go on

new strips cast aside
behemoth penguin rampage
an opus magnum

--Jerry

Haiku number three combines poetry with dentistry, an odd combination...

my wisdom teeth gone:
should i feel smarter, now that
my cheeks are so big?

(sorry, it must be the drugs speaking?specifically, Valium, Penicillin, and Hydrocodone)

--Moxie

Haiku number four makes good points, but c'mon...shouldn't the Gators have expected a pass to the end zone with a minute to go? No "D" means no "W"...

Random current events:

UF/FSU.
"Opus" takes up half a page.
Revolutions rocks.

Chris Leak: MVP.
Because the Noles couldn't win,
The refs beat Gators.

--The Raven's Mirror

Haiku number five wants to see someone back on our nearest neighbor...

Tranquility Base.
Or what could have been. Save for,
Rockwood's lack of kin

Dusty ball of rock,
Where only heroes set foot.
?Rocks?? kindred spirits.

Seekers of knowledge
Lusting for experience
Luna awaits thee

Resting in orbit,
Waiting for those untimid.
To share Rockwood's life.

I dare thee to go,
Where Aldren has tread upon,
Cowards, don't apply

--N'Daa Po

Haiku number six's answers about abbreviations lie here. We don't have any answers for how Tennessee could lose to New York...

Titans fall to Jets.
Seek some comfort from Rockwood.
What's L-M-A-O?

--Sarcasmo

Haiku number seven's author barely has time to write in...

Holidays? What those?
Only things I've noticed are
Finals and papers.

--Elizabeth

And haiku number eight gets Haiku of the Week for remembering...

Okay, there are some regular contributors to the Mailbag and Haiku Thursday. This haiku is for them.

He told us last year
And only *I* remembered?
Shame! Shame on you all!

(And happy birthday)

--Christina
