Exploring the world of comic strips through vague Japanese poetry.

March 18, 2004

The content on this page is solely created by you, the viewers, so if you want to see more, you'll have to contribute something yourself.

  1. Haikus are a form of poetry that consists of three lines with five, seven, then five syllables on each respective line. For example...

Rockwood is in space (5 syllables)
On a circular station (7 syllables)
Looking down on Earth (5 syllables)

Obviously, that's pretty boring, but technically correct. Try to do more than just count syllables. Be creative!

  2. The haiku you submit doesn't necessarily have to have Rockwood mentioned in it, but it would be nice if it related to something in the site somehow, whether it be space-related or just pertaining to a topic brought up elsewhere.

On with the haikus!

Haiku number one isn't fond of St. Patrick's Day puns...

So bad it hurts...

Read the strip today.
"They're tragically too vicious"?
Now I am in pain!

--Christina

Haiku number two points out a poetic opportunity missed...

That was quite a stretch.
Why puns on St. Patricks day?
Why not a limerick?

I would offer one,
but Nantucket is too long.
No pun intended.

--Sarcasmo

Haiku number three gets Haiku of the Week not only for it's tribute to Spain, but also because it correctly plugs the Rockwood calendar. Never underestimate the value of sucking up...

Tragedy in Spain
Hijacked were the elections
By bombs on a train

al-Qaeda member?
And what will we be facing
Before November?

If was weak the heart
Then why did they yonder go?
Can't finish, why start?

Terror part of life
I could be hit by a car
They blame strife on me

--David Henderson

P.S. I enjoy the calendar a lot.
